Tanzania faces a critical shortage of qualified childcare workers, particularly in rural areas. This gap affects child development and limits opportunities for young mothers who cannot attend classes without reliable childcare.
Without qualified caregivers and accessible daycare, young mothers in the EHM program cannot attend classes, and children in rural communities miss critical early development windows.
Professional Training Through FDCs
The ECD program addresses Tanzania's critical shortage of qualified childcare workers by integrating accredited training into FDCs. Currently operating in 15 FDCs with plans to scale to all 55, the program creates a dual benefit: trained professionals and operational daycare centers that enable young mothers in the EHM program to attend classes.

The Daycare Model: A Critical Enabler
FDC daycare centers serve both participants' children and surrounding communities. This unlocks EHM: young mothers can only attend classes because daycare exists. Long-term vision: satellite community daycare centers creating a decentralized ECD network.
Dual Purpose, Maximum Impact
Each FDC daycare center serves two functions: as a practical training ground where ECD students learn by doing, and as a community childcare facility serving families across the surrounding area.
This model unlocks the EHM program by providing childcare for young mothers attending classes. Without daycare, second-chance education is impossible.

NVA Level 1
Foundation ECD/ECE skills, child development basics, life skills, and communication.
